I've been wanting to put my training on record for sometime. Not just my Garmin/Strava stats but how I feel pre, during and post workout. The NYC Marathon was 17 days ago. I ran the race as a celebration of life and the joys that this new running culture brings to me, weather its my unselfish teammates or the at large running community here in New York City. It felt great to run down these 'Mean Sreets' and be cheered like the winning home teams. The New York City marathon will always be a special race for me as I have enjoyed it from every possible way. I've been a spectator, Running Fan, Volunteer and Runner. I look forward to my next NYC Marathon which I plan to run in 2019.
Well I want to start keeping this blog as a way of keeping track of my training as I get closer to my 50th birthday. I'm pretty sure I can run fast times if I can get a grip on my eating habits, build upper body strength to help support my long distance running and train in a manner that is uninhibited by work and family responsibilities.
On Tuesday November 20, 2017, 15 days after the NYC Marathon, I went out for a speed workout on the rolling hills of Central park and was feeling well two miles in to the speed portion of the workout when while driving up the east side of Harlem hill my right hamstring started to scream in a manner I have never felt in my 49 years. The workout was a bit faster then I should have run but the engine was string albeit the body was still withered by the recent marathon effort. I had run 30+ miles the past week and thought nothing of the hamstrings as they have felt recovered from the Marathon. Well I finished the workout (Workout) and hobbled to the subway for the long ride home. I iced my hamstring, massaged it and rolled it out but it still is sore. While the right hamstring is more tender the left hamstring is also sore so I'm not as concerned as if it was only one because they are tender as a result of the Marathon and not the workout which only exacerbated the soreness. I took today off in hopes that I will be able to hit the road sooner rather then later.
